please remember "everlasting love" by howard jones
Since we're talking late 80s/early 90s music videos: I apparently did not realize this video was SO funny the last time I watched it, which was at the age of five.
please remember the fine young cannibals' one hit
Please remember how awesome the video is and how British the teeth are.

please remember abba's christmas super-megamix
Technically my remembrance of this could only last a few hours so far, since the first time I heard it was today. But it's worth the seven or so minutes of mega-Christmas to hear them try to say "figgy pudding" with their Swedish mouths.
I can't find it online so you will just have to trust me.

please remember rockapella
How does it feel to be a group of Brown alumni singing a cappella on a street corner? Probably pretty great once you move on to Folger's coffee commercials. But we best remember them as the resident beat-boxers of Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? I can't imagine the show being nearly as gripping without a theme song that is one of the most well-known in television history, according to the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences. Unfortunately, nostalgia doesn't make me hate a cappella music any less, and neither does geography.

please remember the key players i left out
The Get Up Kids, Something Corporate, the Starting Line but only one song, the Early November, the Used but only one song, the All-American Rejects, Motion City Soundtrack, Home Grown, Straylight Run, uhh, help me out here, is that all? In addition to Brand New and Taking Back Sunday, of course. You're welcome Amazo.

please remember brand new and taking back sunday
Thanks to Brand New recently coming through town, around here we've renewed our interest in the music we listened to from 2002 through 2004. I'll be the first to say it prompted me to find all my Taking Back Sunday CDs and rip them onto my computer. So nostalgic, so emo(tional).
So, Brand New, I'm sorry you aren't headlining your tours any more. You deserve better. And Taking Back Sunday, I guess you just released a new album? Heck if I know. What I'm saying is that I hope you two got over your feud with each other and also thank you for the memories. And for giving us something to shout to. Even us mild-mannered young girls.

please remember "be somebody (or be somebody's fool)"
Mr. T staged this informative production in 1984 that offers great social advice for kids on topics such as shyness, frustration, styling, daydreaming, and roots. One of my favorites is the segment on respecting one's mother. Thank goodness we had Mr. T to guide us through those awkward years. Even though I didn't see this movie until 2005.

please remember ghost
What a great flick. The part I remember best is when the bad guy dies and the evil angels come up from hell to devour his soul or whatever. That happens, right?

please remember kids incorporated
Kids Incorporated gave us Scott Wolf, Mario Lopez, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Shanice, Martika, Fergie, and David Hasselhoff's singing career.
They were my idols. They are still my idols.
They were my idols. They are still my idols.

please remember the wb
These corporations need to learn that it is not a good idea to change the one constant we have, our weekly television lineup.

please remember the hardee's ball pit
This was genius. Silly Sacks and ball pits. Some of my favorite childhood memories.

please remember meat loaf (bat out of hell 2 version)
I know no one really forgot Meat Loaf, but let's think about a few things:
- The seven and a half-minute epic video for "I'd Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That)" What exactly is "that"? Anyone?
- "Objects in the Rear View Mirror May Appear Closer Than They Are" made me seriously question the physics of car mirrors at age 10. Also over seven minutes long and a little more familial in nature. Also has an epic video, you may cry, gets a little racy after the five-minute mark. The line "If life is just a highway / Then the soul is just a car" makes up for any of this.
- Costarred in "Fight Club", not to be confused with Puzzle Club

please remember giff's corner
Provo residents of the last year may remember Giff's Corner. Run by our friend Giff. Good for vintage clothes, local music, photobooth pictures, sometimes dancing, always friends. Where everybody knows your name. It was a great nine months. Now it's a hair salon.

please remember dream street
Dream Street was the young and underappreciated boy band responsible for launching careers such as Jesse McCartney and...Jesse McCartney. Their first album was released in 2001, selling a million copies nationwide. In true adolescent-fame fashion, they broke up a year later over a legal dispute. Whenever I bring up Dream Street no one outside my immediate family knows what I'm talking about, so just watch the video for their hit song "It Happens Every Time" and you'll miss them as much as I do.

please remember jtt as pinocchio
How could we forget Pinocchio as played by the Jonathan Taylor Thomas? Maybe because we never actually saw the movie.

please remember "today's special"
Today's Special! Remember that show? Jeff (mannequin by day, human by night), Jodie (store display designer), Muffy (talking rhyming mouse), and Sam (night watchman). Just watch the opening theme song if you're having trouble remembering. Hocus pocus alimagocus!

please remember bill & ted's excellent adventure
This is the defining movie of my childhood. Is that alarming to anyone else?
"Eat the pig, eat the pig, ziggy ziggy ziggy zig."
What?
"Eat the pig, eat the pig, ziggy ziggy ziggy zig."
What?

please remember the sisterhood of the traveling pants
So maybe it wasn't that long ago. But remember how I saw it twice, maybe thrice, in theaters and bought it on DVD the day it was released?
Sunday, August 20, 2006
please remember the video for "always be my baby"
Kids at summer camp and Mariah on a tire swing. Not hard to imagine why this is one of my all-time favorite music videos. Really, what's not to like about summer camp? Besides the movie "CAMP," of course, which is the worst investment Danny DeVito's ever made.

Where are you, Squeezits? Please come back, and not in the form of Kool-Aid Kool Bursts.

please remember "the piper" by abba
He came in a dream
He seduced everybody in the land
The fire in his eyes
And the fear was a weapon in his hand
So they let him play
Play their minds away
We're all following a strange melody
We're all summoned by a tune
We're following the piper
And we dance beneath the moon
We're following the piper
And we dance beneath the moon for him
And we dance beneath the moon
Sub luna saltamus
He seduced everybody in the land
The fire in his eyes
And the fear was a weapon in his hand
So they let him play
Play their minds away
We're all following a strange melody
We're all summoned by a tune
We're following the piper
And we dance beneath the moon
We're following the piper
And we dance beneath the moon for him
And we dance beneath the moon

please remember g.u.t.s.
I don't think that acronym actually stands for anything. I do think the Aggro Crag was one of the most intense challenges in the youth game show industry. I don't think Mike O'Malley could have been as excited as he always seemed. I do think Moira Quirk was a style icon for girl referees everywhere. I don't think the production was as good as I did when I was nine. I do think climbing rope net walls deserves more respect. I do think a future Backstreet Boy appeared on the show as "AJ 'Mean' McLean". And I do think at least one winner must've gotten cancer from their so-called trophy, a "glowing piece of [their] radical rock".

please remember polly pocket
This is a very special toy to my heart. My grandma would give me Polly Pockets to celebrate milestones. Maybe for my baptism or birthday...certainly for winning the spelling bee. My favorite of all the Polly Pockets I had (which was probably two) was the seafoam green seashell-shaped compact that opened up into a waterpark that you could put real water in. Contemporary Polly Pockets are completely un-pocket-size, and it's been decided they would be more aptly called: "Polly Purses," "Polly Carry-ons," or "Polly Car Trunks".

please remember the wonder years
I have always wanted to get this on DVD, well not always, but as long as I've known TV shows were on DVD. I found it online a couple months ago, for the outrageous price of about $96! The show is beloved. I should've known.

please remember sinead o'connor
It's been seven hours and 15...years? "Nothing Compares 2 U" is seriously one of the most depressing songs ever recorded. But for some reason it feels so good to revel in Sinead's sorrow. This song is quite singalong friendly and is certainly featured on my Girl Anthems mix cd. You may ask, have I ever heard another song by Sinead? Of course not. I would like to keep it that way so I can remember her in her finest state, borderline suicidal.

please remember ghostwriter
This was a PBS series in which kids just like me (except that they lived in the inner city and I lived in Idaho) would solve serious mysteries with the help of a supernatural being, which was just a bunch of words written in a spiral shape, if I remember right. This show encouraged viewers at home to keep track of the clues, I think, and I had a spiral notebook I would write in during the show. Anyway I think the point of it was either getting kids to write or freaking them out.

please remember the half-inflated dark lord
Remember the episode of "The Simpsons" where Bart goes to the Spinal Tap concert and Homer waits in the car listening to that song about the little Spanish flea? Well everything at the concert goes wrong, the ice from the hockey arena melts all over the stage, and the giant inflatable dark lord above the band is only half inflated.

please remember how phil collins covered "can't hurry love"
I heard Phil's version before the original when I was very young. The original's better. Phil's is okay.

please remember quantum leap
Remember the show "Quantum Leap," well I don't remember it that well but I liked it.
Saturday, July 01, 2006
please remember big sunglasses
Big sunglasses, well they're still around, but my facial features are too petite for me to wear them.
please remember last 4th of july
Last year July 4 fell on a Monday, so naturally all of the America's Freedom Festival at Provo events were held on Saturday, giving us three days of holiday. We saw hot air balloons, thought about camping out for the parade but really just slept in the living room, watched fireworks in the street outside of Chevron, lit Roman Candles, and expressed patriotism by riding around in the bed of a truck, dancing. Also we showed our British friend a real American parade and she asked where our queen was. Okay, I realize everyone may not remember my last 4th of July but now that I told you about it you can remember my memory.

please remember foil candy wrappers
The other day when I ate an entire bag of Werther's Originals at work, I was a little sad that the wrappers are cheap plastic instead of foil like they used to be. I used to fold the wrappers up when I was done with them. Foil folds much better than plastic. The same goes for M&Ms and Skittles wrappers which used to be paper but are now plastic. When will candy manufacturers realize that texture of packaging is half the appeal?

please remember how kelly clarkson was the best american idol
I don't care that much about American Idol, but we all know that Kelly Clarkson is the only one that has been worth anything.
please remember zoltar
Zoltar is the mystical machine in one of my favorite movies, Big, starring Tom Hanks. I like to credit Zoltar with a supporting role, because without that guy we wouldn't have a plot. I saw a Zoltar machine a few months ago at Venice Beach. I wish Zoltar was here right now so I could make wishes come true. I guess what I'm saying is that if I had a Zoltar machine, I would wish for a Zoltar machine.

please remember pee-wee's playhouse
Fun, educational, cartoons, scooters, pajama parties, secret words, talking inanimate objects, Laurence Fishburne. You do the math.
please remember starship
Jefferson Airplane, Jefferson Starship, Starship--whichever you prefer. My fondest memory of them (aside from "We Built This City" being named VH1's most awesomely bad song ever) is the song "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now," in which I once misheard some lyrics as saying: "And we can build this dream together / Santa's gone forever." A sad realization for a four-year-old.

please remember "again" by janet jackson
Recently remembering this song has revived some great feelings. This is surely one of Janet's more emotional songs. My favorite part is toward the end when her voice quivers because she's CRYING. How many artists can pull that off?
P.S. My media player just shuffled to this song out of thousands of songs--not a coincidence.

please remember crystal pepsi
So maybe it tasted a little different from regular Pepsi, but wasn't it so cool and refreshing?
please remember squeeze pops
Arguably the most delicious gelatin-based candy ever made. I really don't care what you say, I'll probably buy some on eBay pretty soon. Only the cherry flavor though.
please remember barbara hershey
Remember how scary she was in The Natural? Remember how awesome she was in Beaches?

please remember giga pets
I had a koala. The only pet I ever had. Except for that time I got 30 goldfish for my birthday.
please remember hanson
They didn't get the credit they deserved. Three brothers with three voices at different stages of puberty. Harmonic genius.
