please remember starship

Jefferson Airplane, Jefferson Starship, Starship--whichever you prefer. My fondest memory of them (aside from "We Built This City" being named VH1's most awesomely bad song ever) is the song "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now," in which I once misheard some lyrics as saying: "And we can build this dream together / Santa's gone forever." A sad realization for a four-year-old.

  1. Today while running, I heard this song, and thought of you, and Santa. Later (it was a 6 mile run) I heard One Fine Day with Mariah and Boyz 2 Men, or whoever, and greenbelt people must have thought I was crazy laughing as I ran, with the thought of 11 year old Rico Suavee hitting on you in Primary. I saw his fiancee's photo today, she could squash him like a bug.

  2. Starship is only such a horrible band, because they used to be so awesome. Jefferson Airplane was a cutting edge, psychadelic experiment in sound and imagery. Grace Slick was so cool. Then it all ended in terrible choruses of "Sara! Saaaraah! No time is a good time for goodbye."

Ironically, I love "We built this city on rock and roll" with undue passion.
