please remember "everlasting love" by howard jones

Since we're talking late 80s/early 90s music videos: I apparently did not realize this video was SO funny the last time I watched it, which was at the age of five.

please remember the fine young cannibals' one hit

Please remember how awesome the video is and how British the teeth are.

please remember abba's christmas super-megamix

Technically my remembrance of this could only last a few hours so far, since the first time I heard it was today. But it's worth the seven or so minutes of mega-Christmas to hear them try to say "figgy pudding" with their Swedish mouths.

I can't find it online so you will just have to trust me.

please remember rockapella

How does it feel to be a group of Brown alumni singing a cappella on a street corner? Probably pretty great once you move on to Folger's coffee commercials. But we best remember them as the resident beat-boxers of Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? I can't imagine the show being nearly as gripping without a theme song that is one of the most well-known in television history, according to the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences. Unfortunately, nostalgia doesn't make me hate a cappella music any less, and neither does geography.

please remember brand new and taking back sunday

Thanks to Brand New recently coming through town, around here we've renewed our interest in the music we listened to from 2002 through 2004. I'll be the first to say it prompted me to find all my Taking Back Sunday CDs and rip them onto my computer. So nostalgic, so emo(tional).

So, Brand New, I'm sorry you aren't headlining your tours any more. You deserve better. And Taking Back Sunday, I guess you just released a new album? Heck if I know. What I'm saying is that I hope you two got over your feud with each other and also thank you for the memories. And for giving us something to shout to. Even us mild-mannered young girls.

please remember "be somebody (or be somebody's fool)"

Mr. T staged this informative production in 1984 that offers great social advice for kids on topics such as shyness, frustration, styling, daydreaming, and roots. One of my favorites is the segment on respecting one's mother. Thank goodness we had Mr. T to guide us through those awkward years. Even though I didn't see this movie until 2005.

please remember ghost

What a great flick. The part I remember best is when the bad guy dies and the evil angels come up from hell to devour his soul or whatever. That happens, right?

please remember kids incorporated

Kids Incorporated gave us Scott Wolf, Mario Lopez, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Shanice, Martika, Fergie, and David Hasselhoff's singing career.

They were my idols. They are still my idols.

please remember when i could still wear shorts every day

Oh, that was last week.

please remember the wb

These corporations need to learn that it is not a good idea to change the one constant we have, our weekly television lineup.

please remember the hardee's ball pit

This was genius. Silly Sacks and ball pits. Some of my favorite childhood memories.

please remember meat loaf (bat out of hell 2 version)

I know no one really forgot Meat Loaf, but let's think about a few things:
  • The seven and a half-minute epic video for "I'd Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That)" What exactly is "that"? Anyone?

  • "Objects in the Rear View Mirror May Appear Closer Than They Are" made me seriously question the physics of car mirrors at age 10. Also over seven minutes long and a little more familial in nature. Also has an epic video, you may cry, gets a little racy after the five-minute mark. The line "If life is just a highway / Then the soul is just a car" makes up for any of this.

  • Costarred in "Fight Club", not to be confused with Puzzle Club

please remember giff's corner

Provo residents of the last year may remember Giff's Corner. Run by our friend Giff. Good for vintage clothes, local music, photobooth pictures, sometimes dancing, always friends. Where everybody knows your name. It was a great nine months. Now it's a hair salon.

please remember dream street

Dream Street was the young and underappreciated boy band responsible for launching careers such as Jesse McCartney and...Jesse McCartney. Their first album was released in 2001, selling a million copies nationwide. In true adolescent-fame fashion, they broke up a year later over a legal dispute. Whenever I bring up Dream Street no one outside my immediate family knows what I'm talking about, so just watch the video for their hit song "It Happens Every Time" and you'll miss them as much as I do.

please remember jtt as pinocchio

How could we forget Pinocchio as played by the Jonathan Taylor Thomas? Maybe because we never actually saw the movie.

Friday, September 01, 2006

please remember "today's special"

Today's Special! Remember that show? Jeff (mannequin by day, human by night), Jodie (store display designer), Muffy (talking rhyming mouse), and Sam (night watchman). Just watch the opening theme song if you're having trouble remembering. Hocus pocus alimagocus!

please remember bill & ted's excellent adventure

This is the defining movie of my childhood. Is that alarming to anyone else?

"Eat the pig, eat the pig, ziggy ziggy ziggy zig."

What?

please remember the sisterhood of the traveling pants

So maybe it wasn't that long ago. But remember how I saw it twice, maybe thrice, in theaters and bought it on DVD the day it was released?

please remember the video for "always be my baby"

Kids at summer camp and Mariah on a tire swing. Not hard to imagine why this is one of my all-time favorite music videos. Really, what's not to like about summer camp? Besides the movie "CAMP," of course, which is the worst investment Danny DeVito's ever made.
